To use MakeMKV to back up a DVD on Windows 10/11, go to the official site and download the latest version. I can make available the entire disc, the original and DVDFab-saved IFO, VTS, whatever. Does makemkv not have the option to create a decrypted backup for DVDs. ![]() I'm very interested in getting this fixed because I prefer to archive as folder structures, not ISOs. Even if the ifo is in fact corrupt somehow, vlc has no difficulty with it. Now, I don't know if DVDFab is making a mistake here, but given that vlc can navigate the dvd menu correctly, while makemkv cannot, I suggest that this is a bug in makemkv. If I change DVDFab to create an ISO, makemkv finds all the titles when opening the iso. vlc also skips the copyright when playing from the actual disc.) (title 2 is the 35s copyright message - this is skipped by vlc for either setting of PP. It starts at title 3 in the log output.Īlso for both of these cases, vlc does work and navigates the DVD menu and plays title 1 correctly. Whether I keep PathPlayer on, ie allow DVDFab to edit the IFO and first VTS, or turn PathPlayer off (which should copy the IFO and VTS as-is), in either case makemkv does not find the first title at all during its scan. It does this by rewriting the first VTS or something like that. I usually keep the PathPlayer option on, so DVDFab can scan and remove copyright and other startup messages. I can make available the entire disc, the original and DVDFab-saved IFO, VTS, whatever.Just came across my first DVD that doesn't work correctly. Even if the ifo is in fact corrupt somehow, vlc has no difficulty with it. MakeMKV is a dead simple app that does one thing really well: make a full-size, 1080p MKV video file from your Blu-Ray disc. If present on the disc, MakeMKV computes and compares hashes of M2TS files automatically. ![]() Designed as part of AACS protection, this file has a very useful property exploited by MakeMKV - having this file it is possible to verify that M2TS file loaded from the disc is not corrupt. I use it for exactly that too Extract the commentaries from blu-rays. Almost each Blu-ray disc contains so called content hash file. I use it once in a blue moon to extract audio commentary tracks from BDs or UHD-BDs. Now, I don't know if DVDFab is making a mistake here, but given that vlc can navigate the dvd menu correctly, while makemkv cannot, I suggest that this is a bug in makemkv. Last I used it, MakeMKV is basically free to use, you just have to go to their forum to get the latest beta test key which changes every month IIRC. ![]() Once I opened the disk, the backup button inside menu greyed out. After some trying and google, I just noticed that if I want to backup, I should press the BIG button in the very first, dont need to choose OPEN DISC in menu. I usually keep the PathPlayer option on, so DVDFab can scan and remove copyright and other startup messages. I saw the backup button (whick inside the menu) on grey for quite a while. Just came across my first DVD that doesn't work correctly. The main reason to create an encrypted backup is if the title is not yet supported - and perhaps you will not have access to the physical disc in the future.
